Gucci Transforms Into "Guccy" For Cruise 2018
Guccify yourself.
While most designers have been jetting halfway across the world, Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele decided to head back to the brand’s roots for his 2018 cruise collection. The collection, called Antianatomy, was presented at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence and was created to show the “heart and soul of Gucci’s origins.”
“Everything started from the idea of the Mediterranean, the antique Greek and Roman culture, how it still transforms everything,” Michele told WWD. Much like the Renissance period, and what we've come to understand of Michele's Gucci, there was a little bit of everything at the show. Designs filled with intricate details, embroideries, rich textures and ornamentation strutted down the runway, while women’s gowns and fur coats that look like they cost as much as the Palazzo itself swished by observers.
Michele was certainly not one to shy away from the Gucci logo. On the contrary, he spun it on midi skirts, pantsuits, as well as on bomber jackets and furs. Those with a keen eye may have also spotted the word “Guccy” appearing on a dress – not a spelling mistake but the medieval spelling of the brand and a riff on the knock-offs that are sold all around the globe. “The Gucci logo is the hieroglyph of the company, it’s the biggest decoration, it’s like a pop symbol, it makes everything powerful so I love it,” remarked Michele.
Wolves, tigers, collegiate branding, sporty logos and those immortal double Gs were all over the place, and statement pieces (well, those that were just a little bit louder than others) dazzled and overloaded guests’ eyeballs. The creative director himself stepped out for his bow wearing an tee emblazoned with "Guccify yourself," a statement that will certainly stick with us after such a strong presenation. Another covetable collection from the Gooch.
