Your 2023 Golden Globes Recap
In case you missed the big night.
Award season is here! The Golden Globes made their big screen return on Tuesday night with celebrities turning out in droves. The award show saw some controversy in 2022, when the NBC decided to not televise the awards due to Hollywood Foreign Press Association's diversity issues and sketchy ethics. Hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael, the event was hosted at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, which underwent severe weather-proofing for the California storm. The Banshees of Inisherin and Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans practically swept, with the former nabbing three major awards. The Golden Globes also gave actress Zendaya’s third award as Rue from Euphoria, despite her absence from the awards, and fueled Oscar hope for Michelle Yeoh in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
It was a night of rain-drenched dresses, heartwarming speeches, and awkward jokes. From The White Lotus’ Jennifer Coolidge’s hilarious yet touching speech, to host Jerrod Carmichael’s bold “I’m here because I’m Black” joke at the expense of the aforementioned Hollywood Foreign Press Association, this Golden Globes was a night to remember. The Golden Globes, while always chaotic, give us a glimpse of what’s to come this award season.
