The Fresh Prince of Bel Air Finds its Lead in Jabari Banks.
And he does in fact hail from West Philadelphia.
Meet Jabari Banks - rapper and basketball player and the newly revealed star of Peacock’s The Fresh Prince of Bel Air reboot. The hotly anticipated series reimagines the NBC smash hit for the modern day with a new cast altogether.
Fans can rejoice at Will Smith’s seal of approval on the reboot, serving as an executive producer on the upcoming series. In fact, it was Smith who made the announcement via a Skype call between him and Banks. Streamed to the Peacock Youtube channel, Banks was unaware he had been chosen for the part and found out in real time with fans alike.
Banks revealed that it was father who put him on to the role. “My dad sent me an article, and he was like you should really do this. I was like, Dad, that's not how auditions work. But two months later my agent sent me the call and I knew it was right.
Smith went on to wish Jabari every success with the series and expressed his confidence in the casting choice. “You’ve got a fantastic road ahead of you, and I’m looking forward to being an asset to you in this process as you build out your life and your career.”
Fans have yet to find out when the series will premiere and who will star alongside Banks in the reboot, entitled Bel-Air, but it’s safe to say that this casting decision, and Will Smith’s blessing, should keep them happy for now. Stay tuned for more details!
