Formula 1 Introduces Their First Ever Female-Only Esports Competition
F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard; the long-overdue female-only qualification route into the Pro Exhibition
Formula 1 announces the F1 Esports Series Women’s Wildcard, their first female-only qualification route into the Pro Exhibition where official teams will be scouting talent for this year’s Pro Championship taking place in the Fall.
The all-female racers will compete during the week of May 3 to 9, doing their laps on Codemaster’s F1 2020 video game. Only the fastest qualifier in the Women’s Wildcard will move on to the Pro Exhibition in May, where the teams will scout from an array of the fastest video game racers in the world.
So far, the F1 Esports Series have not had women race in their professional ranks. They are hopeful that the creation of the Women’s Wildcard will incentivize more women to participate in the competitions and hint at the possibility of an official F1 Esports team selecting their first female racer.
The Pro-Exhibition, along with the Women’s Wildcard assessments, will be available for streaming live across Formula 1’s social channels (YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch) on May 27.
