Lazy-Girl Guide to Cute Outfits When You Don't Feel Like Trying

January is my least favorite month of the year. There’s a distinct feeling that sets in after the holidays end. Your decorations come down, your calendar goes quiet, it’s dark by 4 p.m., and suddenly getting dressed feels… exhausting. Winter outfits become a chore, and the motivation to put together a look is at an all-time low. That’s exactly why matching sets are always my January saving grace.

Matching sets are my comfort clothes – they’re always there when I need them, dependable, effortless, and flattering. It’s how I look put-together when I need to leave the house but don’t even want to get out of bed. Whether you’re wearing a knit set, a tailored two-piece, or loungewear, you always look put together and feel relaxed. I don’t know about you, but that's exactly what I need my outfits to be doing for me during this time of year. 

When it gets dark insanely early, and all I want to do is lie in bed, but I still need to get groceries, my go-to is throwing on a sweater set. Paired with a great coat, boots, or even just a slicked-back bun, and suddenly I look like I put a lot more effort into my outfit than I actually did. Post-holiday season is when I crave this consistency the most. There’s something about having go-to outfits that you know will work that makes your days feel lighter. You’re basically getting a 2-for-1; you can wear the pieces together for a cohesive look or mix and match when you’re feeling creative. A sweater and jeans is a classic look, or a skirt with a tank and a cardigan thrown on to tie it all together.

So in the depths of winter, fashion doesn’t need to be complicated – it just needs to feel good. I’m feeling good in my cozy matching sets, the perfect uniform for getting through the post-holiday slump without sacrificing your personal style.
