Feast On This: Skinny Girl Diet Tell It How It Is

POSTED BY FIZZY STAFF

“Silver Spoons is a song about being working class and trying to aspire to be something more than getting a cashier job…”, comments Delilah Holliday, Singer / Songwriter and Guitarist, of bruisingly relevant, stand up and be counted, proudly punk AF, London based band, ‘Skinny Girl Diet‘; with Drummer Ursula Holliday, and Bassist Amelia Cutler, completing the trio.

The track ‘Silver Spoons’ features on the 2015 EP ‘Reclaim Your Life’: a raw and uncompromising guitar thrashing three track statement, in testament to crap jobs, masking pain through fake smiles, and the malignant misery of being a regular person just trying to do anything, in ‘Tory led Britain.

In the video for Silver Spoons, Directed by Matt Robinson, Skinny Girl Diet get in the spirit of the ‘riot grrrls’ who came before them – Viv Albertine of The Slits is a fan: ” at last – real girls, young and believable, singing in their own voices” – as they take to task corrupt policemen and pimps, out on the streets, charging purposefully about on BMXs and looking fierce, thanks to the fighting spirit of the styling: Char Roberts and Bertie Brandes (of Mushpit Magazine) mash up classic Punk PVC and leather references, all about the now streetwear varsity jackets, with white lace details making an appearance; a nod to the ‘Kinderwhore’ babydoll style of the rocking 90s girl bands.

Grab your gigging spirit, and follow this band’s brightly lit trail through the shit storm that is just trying to live in the happy slappy culture of cuts, in this so called post-recession world.
