Ellen Hodakova Larsson: The Designer Deconstructing Fashion, One Garment At The Time
A look into Hodaland, the world of “the new cool kid” in Fashion.
Stockholm-based designer Ellen Hodakova Larsson has launched her first for-sale drop and e-commerce platform, in Stockholm, this past Monday the 21st.
The launch party counted with 50 people, where many were creatives, some outside the fashion industry. Most would come together at Hodakova’s studio, during the pandemic, to collaborate or simply support one another. An uncommon scene in Stockholm, since the different creative industries don’t tend to blend. The event counted with live performances from Hannes Ferm, Ishi Vu, and Filip Johnson, that had previously made an appearance in the designer’s lookbook.
Graduating from the Swedish School of Textiles in 2019, the designer launched her label, HODAKOVA, soon after. Influenced by music and lyrics, art, and architecture, the designer says she also grew up in a family of “doers”, which taught her that just because something is broken or old doesn't mean that it no longer holds value and cannot have a purpose. This encouragement to constantly cultivate her imagination made her a curious and resourceful designer that understands the importance of trusting the creative process.
Hodakova’s upcycled, sustainable, and always functional garments will for sure have you digging through whatever items you abandoned in the back of the closet to craft a whole new wardrobe, and nothing is off-limits! By deconstructing vintage and deadstock clothing, she resurrects them into innovative items, that respond to present social and political issues and are suitable for everyday wear.
Whether it is a head-turner co-ord heart set (Carrie heart top and trousers), made out of towels, or a must-have bag created out of leather belts, her garments are guaranteed to have you feeling one of a kind and looking stylish all while preserving the environment, one upcycled garment at the time.
