Wolf In SheepâS Clothing: The Rise Of Ellie Rowsell
Ellie Rowsell is a power-lass on a mission. Part riot grrrl, part shrinking wallflower, Wolf Aliceâs waify chanteuse and rhythm guitar maven might just be the â90s grunge-diva redux todayâs indie-rock throngs have been salivating for.
The 24-year-old North Londoner clearly got her chops from alt-girl heavyweights past like P.J. Harvey, Courtney Love, and Sonic Youthâs Kim Gordon. But never mind that. She and her band (kickass craftsmen one and all) bust out the loud-quiet-loud/wall of sound thing that built the â90s with their own distinct wallop, with Rowsell aching out tunes in the fragile but determined voice of a dreamy teenage misfit stuck in the humdrum of a small town and just dying to get out â and who might just pull it off.
Youâll usually spot Rowsell donning getups that match her bandâs edgy sound: skimpy satin negligees and 8-eye Doc Martens over torn leggings are standard. The petite Brit usually gives off the look of that sketchy girl in school who might help you with your homework â or else kick your ass on the spot. All the more reason to love her.
Yeah, Ellie Rowsell is a girl on a mission alright. And we at Fizzy canât wait to see where sheâs heading. Do stay tuned.
