Do You Know The Difference Between Parsley And Pussy?
Here's what you need to know about the documentary on Curve, the lesbian magazine founded by Franco Stevens.
Lesbian. Queer. Gay. Words that could not be printed onto the front cover of magazines back in the late 80s without causing an uproar.
The importance of Curve in the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights is undeniable. Not only was the magazine the first-ever glossy-lesbian-publication, but remains, to this day, a bestseller of its own niche. 30 years after its humble origins and the magazine is fiercely owning the spotlight once again, this time in the form of a documentary following its founder, Franco Stevens, along with the ongoing fight for queer visibility in the media.
Franco, now facing the magazine’s potential closure due to a complicated editorial climate, takes the viewer through where queer activism stands as of today. Edited amongst flashbacks and interviews, the documentary also offers glimpses into the struggles Franco faced - amongst which the lawsuit filed by Catherine Deneuve causing the magazine (previously named after the actress’ surname) to change its name to Curve.
Stay tuned, as this celebration of queer identity comes out in all its documentary glory on June 4th. Oh, and the answer to this article's title? As Franco puts it: "I don't know, I don't eat Parsley".
