Coupdekat Drops Highly Anticipated EP FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY
Playful and forward-thinking, her music explores sexuality, identity, and empowerment.
Loud Ldn co-founder and the fast-rising artist, Coupdekat, has finally released her highly anticipated EP, FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. This six-track EP is a playful and forward-thinking exploration of sexuality, identity, adulthood, and empowerment. Coupdekat masterfully combines live and electronic instruments with internet samples, blurring the lines between the real and virtual worlds.
Kicking off the EP is the lead track, "STUNT GIRL," which showcases Coupdekat's signature catchy hooks and genre-defying production. The song delves into the complexities of relationships, with Coupdekat expressing her desire for a lover's reassurance by singing, "If only for the night, will you pretend that you miss me."
The second track, "BABYTEEF," draws inspiration from The 1975's album, 'Give Yourself A Try,' which Coupdekat considers the soundtrack to her teenage years. With cyber-style synths and infectious breakbeats, this track sets the stage for Coupdekat's honey-eyed vocals to shine, leading up to hook-filled choruses that will have you singing along.
"Superglue," released as a single, stands out as a bright and dreamy bedroom pop gem. Coupdekat's effortless vocals paint a vivid picture of the exhilarating highs and emotional lows of young love. Meanwhile, "It's not you!" combines playful vocal melodies, futuristic pop production, and catchy chanting choruses. Coupdekat asserts herself and her preferences, singing, "I can't decide what I like, but it's not you," further solidifying her empowering yet tongue-in-cheek style.
Coupdekat shares her thoughts on the EP, saying, "I wanted to create a project that reflects me and the world my generation lives in, capturing all the madness that comes with growing up in it. I wanted it to feel immediately familiar on the first listen."
While her previous EP, 'Imaginary Girls,' explored online relationships and social media during the lockdown, FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY takes us into a post-lockdown world, delving into the relationships she has with herself and others beyond the confines of her phone. The EP represents the merging of the real and virtual worlds, blending live and electronic instrumentation with a plethora of internet samples, truly encapsulating the new generation of youth culture.
Driven by her passion to connect with fans at live events and fueled by frustration with male-dominated line-ups, Coupdekat took action to create tangible change in the London music scene. Alongside fellow artist Maisi Bourke, they founded "Loud LDN," an all-female collective that combines their love for film, photography, fashion, and art. With over 80 members, "Loud LDN" provides a support network for young female solo artists in London, sharing advice, experiences, and, most importantly, creating music together. The collective has garnered early support from respected outlets like NME and the BBC, allowing artists to carve their own path.
With her recent singles gaining support from WONDERLAND, ONES TO WATCH, and F-WORD, as well as playlist placements on Spotify's NEW MUSIC FRIDAY, OUR GENERATION, and NEW POP UK, and radio support from BBC INTRODUCING LONDON, THREE COUNTRIES, and BBC 6 FRESH ON THE NET, Coupdekat's star is undoubtedly on the rise. She is set to continue her upward trajectory, making waves in the industry and fostering community through her captivating sound. To celebrate the release of FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY, Coupdekat will be performing live at Kuntstraum (Old Street) on June 15th for her EP launch party.
