COMME Des GARÇONS x Mikimoto: A Modern Twist On Classical Pearl Jewelry

COMME des GARÇONS, regarded as the most avant-garde fashion house, has collaborated with Japanese pearl experts Mikimoto for a capsule collection. It features the most classical jewelry with a modern twist: the pearl necklace. The partnership marries two apparent opposites, a fashion house that is known for its ungendered and unconventional designs with a pearl brand known best for its classical craftsmanship legacy.

In regards to the growing enthusiasm towards co-ed fashion and accessories, this gender-fluid collection is created for all. In an official press release, designer Rei Kawakubo stated that “The image of pearls overlap in places with the image of COMME des GARÇONS,” breaking boundries on the fact that pearls are no longer confined as women’s jewelry and can be worn by anyone regardless of age and gender.

Arriving in a total of seven styles, the collection is crafted in sterling silver  and White South Sea or Akoya Mikimoto pearls with CBD branding.

Mikimoto x COMME des GARÇONS’ jewelry items are slated to drop mid-February at Mikimoto’s Ginza stores, as well as CDG and Dover street market stores internationally. The collection ranges from $2,800 USD to $39,000 USD.
