The Perfect Marriage For Chanel And The French Countryside

Love is in the air!

POSTED BY CIARA BEAL

A delicacy dedicated to a time when two become one where wedding bells ring and happiness fills the air, Chanel’s creative director Virginie Viard reflects on the ethereal celebration through her craft.

Turning away from the conventional wedding approach one might expect from a Parisian couture collection, these garments incorporate a “bohemian style” suited towards a wedding or family celebration “rather than at the Ritz!” Viard tells Vogue’s, Hamish Bowles. Where timeless gowns including a pale pink dress featuring tiers of flounced crepe georgette and matching ruffled bolero, as well as a white daisy lace gown with a removable skirt, sweep the great staircase of the Grand Palais.

The beauty is discovered in the intricate details where Chanel’s ethos house style is present. Micro-tweed coat dresses, tiered ruffles, pale ballerina crepe, and crotched chiffon unite with the countryside motifs the Grand Palais envisioned. The aesthetic of a country wedding in the South of France is evoked with rustic arches adorned with flowers, and wooden chairs for the socially distanced guests including Chanel ambassadors Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose Depp, and Alma Jodorowsky.

The bride, who closed the show on a majestic white horse, wore a long dress and train in ecru satin crêpe, embroidered by Lesage with strass and pearl butterflies. Explore the entire collection here.
