Casablanca’s Spring/Summer 2022 Campaign is a Pretty Woman Homage
The Iconic Julia Roberts Film Gets a Modern and Luxurious Update.
French luxury brand Casablanca debuted a high summer campaign that takes notes from Garry Marshall’s legendary 1990 film, Pretty Woman. Julia Roberts, the film’s star, is evoked through the pastel pink perfection of late-‘80s Hollywood seen in the campaign’s styling. Model Mica Argañaraz wears the “Masao San” collection while acting out memorable scenes from the movie, like lounging in a limousine or stuffing a convertible full of shopping bags.
Much like Pretty Woman’s costuming, Casablanca’s Summer collection adds glamour to ‘80s workwear. Shoulder pads add height to the collection’s jackets, yet pastel patterns modernize them. Many pieces have avant-garde tailoring, playing on ‘80s silhouettes through a fresh perspective. Aspects of friendship add heart to the clothing and campaign, as the house dedicates the collection to Masao, a close friend.
A wave pattern links the collection together. It is most prominent in the Wave bags, now updated with the house’s monogram, a bamboo handle, and gold hardware. Wave sunglasses are a new addition to the house, also with gold hardware and a curvy design. The waves reflect the motion of ping-pong balls, with the sport’s movements serving as a major inspiration for the collection.
