BRAI, MOR: Cute And Sustainable Clothing

We got to talk to BRAI, MOR about the brand, sustainability, and inspiration.

POSTED BY CATHERINE SHUTTLEWORTH

If your Instagram feed is anything like ours, BRAI, MOR’s pieces are all over it. Often sported by a wide range of fashion influencers, it’s on its way to being the next ‘it’ brand.  Aside from making pieces that are both cute and colourful, the brand is environmentally conscious and eco-friendly – the perfect combination. Not only can you buy clothes, BRAI, MOR offers a customisation service. You can send your old clothes and they’re returned to you with a new look and more life, helping both your wardrobe and the planet.

We were fortunate enough to talk to the brand’s founder – Morin – about the brand and more. Keep reading to hear what she had to say.

Why did you start BRAI, MOR?

I started BRAI, MOR because I wanted to be part of a community that spreads positivity. When I graduated from the University of the Arts London, I thought I wanted to go into PR. As I was looking for jobs, I started on this idea I had during my second years which was to create this brand.” Morin tells us. “We need more positive vibes with the kind of world we are living in and if my clothes and brand do that, then I’m on the right path.

What’s your favourite piece you’ve created?

My favourite piece so far, and the most popular, has to be the ‘soulmate hoodie’. I created it as a Valentine’s Day limited edition piece but it ended up having a permanent place on the website. It reminds people that you don’t need anyone else to complete you.

What inspires you?

My parents definitely inspire me. Seeing how hard they worked to give me and my sister the life that we have just astounds me. They have a constant positive attitude no matter what they go through and that inspires the process of me creating. Another thing that inspires me is watching people walk authentically in their truth! We need more people bold enough to be themselves.

How important is sustainability to you and the brand?

Growing up, I never really knew much about sustainable fashion. When I started to learn more about how garment workers are treated and the effects that fast fashion has on the environment, I knew I wanted BRAI, MOR to be sustainable.

Of course, I’m still learning across the way, but so far, I’m pretty proud of the steps that I have taken in promoting up-cycling and ethical practices. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about taking steps in the right direction. I would never condemn a person in their choices because we have all been there before!

How have you found the pandemic, both personally and business-wise?

It has been a rollercoaster! In the beginning, I was so scared of what it would mean for the brand as we are fairly new. Productivity just wasn’t on my side for the first few months but after I was able to shake it off, I used how I was feeling to create projects for BRAI, MOR. We started a ‘stay home with BRAI, MOR’ campaign where we would ask well-known creatives how they were feeling and tips they had on staying productive. Funnily enough, the brand grew so much in this pandemic it has probably been at its' best.

I try my best to take everything in my stride but mentally it was a lot. It was bittersweet knowing I wasn’t alone and many other people were struggling. I definitely got used to the situation and decided to be grateful for my family’s and my health. Now it’s been an entire year since the first lockdown, and I am so grateful to God that I am still running and thriving.

What are your future goals for the brand? Is there anything specific you want to achieve?

I 100% would love to open a store for people to not only buy from but be able to have the materials and equipment to up-cycle their own clothes. I would love the store to be a place where people can be a part of this amazing community. As the years go on, everything is getting digitalised, but I still appreciate human contact. Being able to see the clothes before you buy them and having great conversations with strangers – those create the best memories.

If you’re desperate to shop from BRAI, MOR just like us, check out their website. And follow their Instagram so you can continue to keep up with – and support – the brand.
