Björk Is Launching Her First Podcast: Sonic Symbolism
A sonic trip through her discography and creative process
As Björk gets ready to release her highly-anticipated full-length album Fossora, the Icelandic artist has announced another exciting new project: her very own podcast.
Titled Björk: Sonic Symbolism, Björk reflects on the creation of each of her studio albums in each episode, as she discusses the creative and personal process of her back catalog, from Debut - through Post, Homogenic, Vespertine, Medúlla, Volta, Biophilia, and Vulnicura - all the way to Utopia (2017), according to a press release. She’s joined by her friends, including philosopher and writer, Oddný Eir and Ásmundur Jónsson.
The first three episodes — on Debut, Post, and Homogenic — will be available on September 1, with subsequent new episodes releasing every Thursday until mid-October. Each episode will run for 40-50 minutes. You’ll be able to listen here.
Speaking on the launch, Björk adds, "most of us go through phases in our lives that take roughly three years, and it is not a coincidence this is also how long it takes to make an album or a film. This podcast is an experiment to capture which moods, timbres, and tempos were vibrating during each of these phases.”
Björk: Sonic Symbolism is presented in collaboration with TalkHouse and Mailchimp.
