Best Gigs for Remote Work: A 2020 Review
What should I expect in remote work?
If you are venturing away from the traditional work life, then you may be looking into the remote work potential. Let’s be clear about one thing. You can do this! Significant portions of the United States and the workforce across the country already work remotely. You don’t even need to be at your home. You could be on vacation and still working diligently on assignments. You could take a meeting from the Bahamas on a boat cruising over crystal clear blue waters listening to birds in one ear and all about TPS reports in the other. The point is that remote work is already a solid part of the existing workforce, even before 2020. The sheltering orders across the US has only solidified the feasibility of remote work for multitudes of jobs. Below is a short list of 6 remote jobs. This list is in no way complete. You can make anything remote if you really want to.

Web Developer
Who do you think creates all of those websites that you browse while in the bathroom? It isn’t someone at the top of the food chain. Rather, the work is outsourced to someone outside the company. It is easier to hire someone from outside than it is to keep someone on staff inside the company. This means that you could get hired to build a better backend for Nike or to build something from the ground up for your local plumber. The potential is unlimited based on your desire to work for a PR firm or to start your own web development company.
Virtual Assistant
Being a virtual assistant is more like being a virtual administrative technician. You aren’t going to be walking dogs. That is a personal assistant. Instead you are going to be managing the digital tasks that busy people don’t have time to do. This could include data entry, internet research, email writing, or even booking travel arrangements. For mobile executives there is no need to have an office. So, why would they need an admin staff that was centralized? You can work from home with a headset and an internet connection.
Travel Agent
There are plenty of websites that exist that can sell people a plane ticket. But it is really hard to know if you are making the right choice or getting a decent deal. Sometimes you should wait to buy a ticket on a different day. These websites won’t tell you that. Rather, they just want your money. As a travel agent you will be in charge of managing the adventures of other people. You won’t just buy tickets. You will advise on travel arrangements, timing, locations, and tours. You will be a tool to build a better vacation.
Freelance Writer
How many blogs have you read in the past 24 hours? Think that quick little news article wasn’t a blog? Think again. All that content has to come from someone. Until the tech industry develops an AI that can write better than a human, people will still need to develop sentences and hit send on the email chain. This is where freelance writers come into play. Instead of having a team of writers on the payroll, most companies just outsource the writing jobs to freelancers. So, one day you could be writing on bathroom remodels and the next it could be the private lives of raccoons.
Social Media Manager
The companies that are pushing out content on a regular basis also have social media accounts that require constant updating and monitoring. Again, they don’t want to hire an in-house staff to only do this. Instead they will outsource this work to a social media management specialist. They handle not one account but multiple accounts. They will update posts, respond to inquiries, and create photo or video content for the social media accounts.
Graphic Designer
How many visuals have you seen in the past 24 hours on the internet? Is it like a book with just text? Of course, it isn’t like that. Instead there are videos and photos and graphics everywhere. As a graphic designer you would work with PR Firms, Design Agencies, or directly with corporate clients to develop all types of graphic images that can be used as digital products or physical products. You could help design business cards, T-shirts, logos, webpages, or social media posts. Being a graphic designer could even get you into the entertainment world with digital arts.
