Belts, But Make Them Fun

Belts used to be the most boring part of an outfit. They’re honestly functional and forgettable. The kind of accessory you throw on because your jeans demand it. But lately, belts are having a moment in my closet. When I’m getting dressed in the morning, I need to pick the perfect belt to match the vibe I’m going for that day. 

So, the way I’ve been using belts to make my outfits feel more styled? By getting creative with them. Currently, I’m obsessed with using scarves as a belt. I’ll loop one through my belt loops with a thick knot for a boho look, or drape it over a minidress to add some dimension. My scarves are brightly colored and filled with patterns, giving the perfect touch of chaos to my outfits.

Another belt replacement I’ve been using? Ties. I was in a belt bind at my boyfriend's place one time, and now his tie is a staple in my belt drawer. Adding a tie as a belt to your outfit makes it more playful and creative. It’s giving, “I have places to be after this.”

I haven’t completely replaced the traditional belts in my wardrobe; I’ve just leveled them up. No more simple black belts with a gold buckle – instead, I’m wearing chain belts, oversized belts, and statement belts. I use mine to dress up any basic outfit. A sweater and jeans is suddenly ten times more interesting with a red, oversized belt – and when my belt matches my shoes, I know I’ve achieved the best outfit ever. These accessories add a functional statement to your outfits, whether you’re just running errands or going on a date; they are a conversation starter for any scenario. 

The rule for fun belts is simple: stop treating them like an afterthought.  They’re not just holding your outfit together — they are the outfit.
