Bring On The Ballet Flat: The Shoe I Didn’t Expect To Love

Why I never thought I’d become a ballet flat person.

POSTED BY JUDE ARAIM

I never thought I would become a ballet flat person. For years, I associated them with a very specific kind of wardrobe — elegant, polished, maybe a little too grown-up for me. I was always reaching for sneakers when I wanted comfort, and heels or boots when I wanted something that felt more elevated.

Then suddenly, ballet flats were everywhere.

They took over my For You Page, appeared in every street style photo, and slowly made their way back into my everyday fashion conversations. At first, I wasn’t convinced. But the more I saw them styled, the more I realized I had completely underestimated them.

The ballet flat has somehow become the shoe that works for everything.

Unlike most shoes that seem to have a specific purpose, ballet flats feel incredibly adaptable. A sneaker gives me a casual everyday look, while heels feel reserved for a more dressed-up moment. Ballet flats somehow sit perfectly in between — comfortable enough for daily life, but still polished enough to make an outfit feel intentional.

I can picture myself wearing them everywhere: a coffee date, a walk through the park, a night out, or even an event where I want to look put together without sacrificing comfort.

The ADIDAS TAEKWONDO MEI ballet shoe is exactly the kind of style that makes this trend feel fresh. The classic black-and-white stripes, paired with white frilly ankle socks, jorts, a skirt, or even baggy jeans and a graphic tee, create that perfect, effortless cool-girl look.

Then there’s the PUMA SPEEDCAT ballet shoe in metallic silver, which feels like the opposite side of the trend. Styled with a black dress, minimalist jewellery, and a small handbag, it instantly transforms into something more futuristic and evening-ready.

That’s what I love about ballet flats — there are endless ways to make them feel like your own.

And honestly, the biggest surprise has been the comfort. I’ve spent nights dancing and walking through the city without worrying about sore feet, painful heels, or the inevitable moment when I regret my shoe choice.

Maybe ballet flats are having their comeback because they offer something we all want right now: style without the struggle.
