Japanese sportswear brand Asics teams up once again with sustainable footwear designer Helen Kirkum.

This fall, the brand worked with a London-based designer on a unique selection of sneakers.

Following their previous collaboration, their second project is a continuation of the Crafts for Minds Project, which launched in February 2022. In partnership with Footpatrol, the limited-edition collection featured 20 exclusive designs to mark Footpatrols’ 20th anniversary.

With sustainability at the heart of the collection, Kirkum created the in-house handmade collection using Asics off cuts. Creating a unified feel to the whole collection, each pair of sneakers features pieces and off cuts from the same sneaker. The final result is an eclectic collage to create the iconic Asics logo and design in a unique way.

Continuing Kirkums ethical stance, the collection is made up of deadstock shoes featuring five key Asics silhouettes such as the GEL-LYTE III, GEL-NANDI OG, GEL-PRELEUS, Asics GEL-KAYANO 14, and the GEL-KAYANO 5 OG.

All the beloved silhouettes featured a vibrant patchwork toe box which was complimented with a neon blanket stitch, alongside a unique fractured Asics logo and limited-edition embroidery detail. Furthermore, this unique collection of sneakers was amplified as the designs include off cuts from the Footpatrol one-of-one sneaker Kirkum created for the 20-year Blueprint exhibition.

Each one-of-a-kind sneaker was raffled off in November, with the proceeds going to the charity Young Minds.

Showcasing Kirkum’s endless creativity with sustainability in mind, you can see why Asics wanted to start and end the year with her. With two exciting and successful collabs under their belts, let’s hope 2023 brings another collection from the two giants.
