And Just Like That, Kim Cattrall Continues To Mind Her Business
Following many years with headlines surrounding drama between Kim Cattrall and SJP, Kim is just trying to live her life post-SATC.
In recent years, rumors surrounding the rift between Sex and the City stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall have resurfaced; last week, SJP dug up their early-aughts drama in an interview and called it "very painful." While there were rumors of a feud dating back to 2004, it wasn’t until a few years ago that fans of the hit show started to realize that the BFFs on-screen were not BFFs off-screen.
Starting in 2004, headlines began to swirl regarding the tension between SJP and Kim; in an interview with Piers Morgan, Cattrall claimed that one reason the show ended was financial inequality among the cast members. For context, SJP was promoted to Executive Producer by the second season, which increased her salary to a whopping $3.2 million per episode, while Cattrall was paid $350,000 per episode.
Following Cattrall’s 2004 interview, the headlines cooled off until the foursome of SATC returned for the first movie in 2008. Rumors re-emerged about drama on set, and each time they were asked about it, Cattrall and SJP had different opinions. Sarah Jessica seemed to push the narrative that there weren’t any issues, while Kim would provide multiple instances in which she was made to feel inferior to her cast mates. According to Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and SJP refused to sit with her during meal breaks and at certain awards shows. In 2010, Davis seemed to take on the SJP narrative and claim that Cattrall’s comments were inaccurate.
The peak of their feud was in February of 2018 when SJP commented publicly on the death of Kim Cattrall’s brother. Kim posted on Instagram in response to her co-star’s comments and seemed to be highly displeased by saying, “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now.” Following her social media post, Cattrall hasn’t said much regarding their issues, besides the fact that her character of Samantha Jones is a closed chapter of her life.
Although SJP has commented semi-frequently about the feud, especially after And Just Like That, Cattrall seems to be working on other projects and is trying to live her life post-SATC drama.
