Alexander Wang Collection 2
The All-American in Paris
The Alexander Wang Collection 2 show was everything we could have ever wished for and beyond. There were leather bike shorts (like where do we pre-order?), 90’s pigtails and even an all lace catsuit. The iconic contemporary designer blew the audience of the Williamsburgh Savings Bank away on Saturday evening with his eclectic collection of Parisian chic meets American Hustler. The runway showed twee headbands and tweed layered over floor length leather skirts and fishnet cardigans all to the soundtrack of Kanye West’s ‘Black Skinhead’.
The collection, which will be available between April and August, is a layering dream; creating looks that can be mixed with others to create a multi-purpose day-to-night look with ease. Playing with silhouettes like no one else can, Wang created a conceptual creation of three piece suits, leopard gilets and silky wrap skirts. The collection is cool, edgy and chic with a playful twist.
The extensive accessory assortment featured in the collection heavily played in to the current logo-mania trend with everything from headbands to chokers emblazoned with the Alexander Wang name. The accessories were a liberal mix of cutesy box handbags and Hustler kitsch leather gloves and gold buckled belts creating the perfect blend between kitsch and chic. There were playful accessories such as the towel-style head wraps and gold chains combined with chic glitzy evening bags and minimal court shoes. The designer also partnered up with Popsockets to create a line of Alexander Wang phone grips in association with (RED). Which was a very fitting cause considering that the show was also hosted on World Aids Day. Not only is Wang changing the face of fashion but also that of humanitarian issues too.
Model-wise, the runway hosted the likes of Fran Summers, rising star Ez and Kaia Gerber, daughter of Cindy Crawford (who also had her eyebrows bleached for the show). As one of the most highly anticipated shows in the fashion calendar, avid fashion fans and celebrities were out in force, including rapper 21 savage and Sophia Robot, keen to see what the alternative designer had in store for the next season. Pre-show, guests were entertained by a champagne and caviar reception and pre-party with festive holiday music. Wang himself also made a guest appearance prior to his show to announce his collaboration with Popsockets before guests sat down to be entranced by the second part of his sartorial vision. April can’t come quick enough!
