Listen Up With These 5 Pop Culture Podcasts
Podcasts are cool,
Podcasts are rad,
They are so much more than just a fad.
If you need to find a reliable way of keeping up to date with the latest content, then podcasts are definitely the answer. This is especially true if youâre keen on keeping up to date with news and trends in the world of pop culture. The choice of podcasts is almost endless, however, so Iâve compiled a list of just 5 of them that I think are very enjoyable and well worth your time.
HERE WE GO!
â¢Film Junk
Do you love films? What am I saying? Of course you do, so you should check these guys out right now. Film Junk is a group of friends who share a passion for film, and they provide regular updates on news in the industry, like the latest trailers and upcoming releases, without all the fluff you get on TV. They give their opinions on the latest news with honesty and good humour. As long as you donât mind the occasional dose of sarcasm, true wit and some good old waffling, then itâs well worth clicking that subscribe button.
â¢The Football Ramble
(I had to sneak something sporty in here). Even if youâre not a football fan, you can probably recognise how tiring it is to listen to self-proclaimed experts ramble on about politics in the dressing room, or to ex-footballers harping on about âwhat it was like in my day.â Fortunately the guys down at The Football Ramble are regular Joes like me and you; they just have a deep-running love for football, and they provide their listeners with weekly football news and tireless banter. Itâs well worth giving them a listen if youâre sick of the same old droll; theyâre pretty hilarious.
â¢The Pop Culture CaféThis is one for all the geeks out there. The man responsible for this gem is John âStoneyâ Burke (a self-confessed geek), and he updates this podcast once per fortnight. That may not be quite as frequent as some, but the episodes are usually around 80 minutes long, so theyâre jam packed full of content. In those episodes heâll cover everything from comics, film, TV and games. Get your nerd hat on for this one.
â¢SRSLY
At first, when I saw the name of this podcast, I was like⦠Seriously?
Nah, but ser- I mean, anyway, this is a rather fun podcast by The New Statesman, hosted by two ladies, Caroline Crampton and Anna Leszkiewicz. They cover everything from music, film, TV, literature and life on the internet at weekly intervals. They cover a broad range of topics whilst being very inclusive with their audience, as they regularly read out emails from their fans and discuss requested topics.
Even if youâre not interested in their content (which you should be), itâs worth listening to them just for the neat little jingle at the beginning of each episode.
â¢How Dare You
Maria Brownmiller and Ricky Armendariz update this rather aptly named podcast every six days or so. They take a different twist on pop culture; itâs more of a criticism towards the accepted norm than anything else, although theyâre very light hearted and not quite as angry as theyâd have you believe. Having said that these two friends are very unapologetic, and will give you their opinions whether you want them or not. Itâs a fresh approach to the cultural world, where everything is challenged. The humour is strong with this one.
So there you have it. If youâre a member of the terrific PlayerFM, then get subscribing to these guys. You wonât be disappointed; I know Iâm not.
