107-Year-Old Woman Says She's Lived That Long Because She 'Never Got Married'
Happy and healthy for over a century.
Louise Signore who turned 107 on Wednesday believes that never walking down the aisle is the reason for her longevity.
Signore, who lives in the Bronx in New York, says:
“I think the secret of 107: I never got married. I think that’s the secret. My sister says ‘I wish I never got married.“ Her sister is 102-years-old and her mother died at 97, so living long lives might also run in the family.
So what are Signore’s top tips for staying happy and healthy for over a century?
She is convinced that her Mediterranean diet helped her stay fit and healthy.
“Italian food. Italian food is very good for you. I was brought up with very good food. No soda, no cake.“
Aisha Parillon of the JASA Senior Center shares with a CBS2’s correspondent that being social and staying connected plays a big role in Signore’s longevity.
“I think that her connection with her neighbors in the community and also her friends here at the senior center help to keep her going.“
Signore’s says:
“If they have exercise, I do the exercise. If they have dancing, I dance. I still do a little dancing. After my lunch, I will play bingo, so I had a full day.“ The 107-year-old also does all of her own shopping which keeps her active and busy.
More than 100 people that love bingo play showed up to her birthday bash at the Bartow Community Center in Coop City. Signore joked: “I’ve had enough parties.“
