Rihanna Pokes Fun At Body-Shaming Online Trolls

A fine example for us all.

Celebs might have a dream lifestyle but we often overlook the bum rap they get for being in the spotlight. There's pressure to look good on all sides of the celebrity gender spectrum but the expectations of the ladies are often especially strong: looking around-the-clock perfect, not being allowed to age, and somehow having to maintain the physique of a rubber sex doll. Often the harshest critiques come from us women, as projected insecurities or just plain meanness, forgetting that although stars seem unreachable, they are only human too.

RiRi is no stranger to the spotlight – I mean, she's been everywhere recently – but as she does the red-carpet rounds for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, her so-called “fans” have been dishing out a lot of unwanted criticism about her body. After a fan account posted a 2015 video of Rihanna grabbing some snacks in a convenience store, Rihanna swooped in with a smooth comeback: “somebody called me too fat?” with three crying-laughing emoji. This is after getting the last laugh last month with a telling Gucci Mane meme, reading: “If you can't handle me at my 2007 Gucci Mane, you don't deserve me at my 2017 Gucci Mane.” Basically Rihanna couldn't give a flying fuck what anyone thinks about her body, and quite right too.

You gotta love RiRi's quiet you-are-not-worthy attitude – it's an admirable example for all of us. Because really, whoever you are – A-list celebrity or grade-A girl from the world – nobody is worthy of your time if they are low enough to intentionally want to bring you down. Even if it's you that's bringing you down, by paying too much attention to unrealistic beauty standards or inflating your “flaws,” the moment you start to live life on your own standards – start to love your imperfections – you can begin to invest your valuable energy into the things that make you happy instead. After all, there's a badgal in all of us.
