Adwoa Aboah Bags Model Of The Year At This Year’s Fashion Awards
Off White’s Virgil Abloh also makes the winners list.
Results of the 2017 British Fashion Awards rolled in last night, giving the ultimate lowdown on fashion world successes throughout the year. With big names including Supreme, Rihanna’s Fenty Puma and Samuel Ross for A-COLD-WALL* released as nominees back in October, the competition was tight from the word go.
The evening began with Jonathan Anderson bagging Accessories Designer of the Year, going on to be honoured once more with the British Designer of the Year Womenswear Award for his work with J.W.Anderson. Those also awarded included Gucci, with former CEO Marco Bizzarri taking home the prestigious Business Leader Award, as well as Stella McCartney winning the Special Recognition Award for Innovation.
Taking home the Model of the Year award was London’s very own Adwoa Aboah, winning against a star line-up of Kaia Gerber, Winnie Harlow and the Hadid sisters. The 25-year old model and mental-health activist (founding her female-empowerment platform, Gurls Talk) is also recognised for breaking down mainstream beauty stereotypes across the industry. The model also made the cover of Edward Enninful’s first-ever edition of British Vogue this year.
Off White’s Virgil Abloh also bagged the Urban Luxe Award, beating Vetements and Supreme to the spot. Known for their statement industrial belts and statement tags, the brand stood at the forefront of luxe streetwear throughout 2017.
