Dapper Dan And Gucci Are Actually Collaborating

We didn't see that coming.

Remember that suspiciously Dapper Dan-esque puffy-shouldered fur bomber from Gucci Cruise 2018? Almost identical, replacing the original Louis Vuitton monogram with Gucci, it understandably caused a lot of controversy in the fashion world – not least because of Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele's recent penchant for appropriating others' designs. Well, in an unexpected turn of events, it has been officially confirmed that Gucci and Dapper Dan are coming together for a collaborative capsule collection – and that's not all.

The fashion label is even helping the legendary Harlem tailor, whose shop was shut down for various copyright infringement violations back in 1992, to reopen his uptown atelier, supplying him with a selection of upscale fabrics.

Commenting on the bomber jacket in question, Dapper Dan – born Daniel Day – was actually just excited about it being there: “That opened a dialogue between us when we finally got in touch with each other. I found out how similar our experiences were, the way he grew up and the way I grew up, and how he was influenced by me. I was never apprehensive about what took place. The public was more up in arms than me.”

The new Gucci-powered Dapper Dan tailor shop is set to open at the end of this year, whilst their collaborative capsule collection is due to debut next spring.
