Sacai x Nike Double Or Nothing Freedom

Pre-Spring rebirth of freedom.

POSTED BY HANEEN WÓJCIK

Collaborations between brands has been the driving force of the great art work adorning our insta feeds, streets and runways. If only our governments could learn to collaborate instead of annihilate.

Chitose Abe's in-genius fashion forward art house of clothing, Sacai, has collaborated not only with Nike (we will get to that juicy part a little later), but also with Pendleton, renowned for their Native American Blankets and Dr. Woo, the intricate LA based Tattoo Artist; for its PFW SS19 Collection.

The collection is colorful to say the least drawing in from Pendleton's Native American Designs married craftily in with black sheer and midnight blue Nike performance leggings.  The women's skirts and dresses danced playfully around the runway, encapsulating the collections Freedom message.

Fabrics were layered and garments followed an unstructured take on classic silhouettes draping over the models and becoming them. The Pendleton blanket inspired skirts featured fringing tails and earthy tones celebrating nature and freedom.

The collection also featured a dark blue denim heavy section with male and female models dressed similarly implying a blurred gender unisex feel. Drawing from deconstructed and military influences Unisex fashion is toppling over the long created and founded gender norms of what was once high fashion. Especially with more design houses adopting a more street wear edge than over exaggerated gender conforming fashion of old.

Dr Woo's intricate tattoo embroidery on many pieces with the most distinct a bright yellow women's poncho with a soaring eagle in navy blue.

Sacai's SS19 collection is a melting pot of inspiration. A lucid colorful dream of classic Japanese art, the marriage of nature and military and over all freedom. A collaboration between the sacred and the new. An appreciation of nature and freedom through art.

And those Juicy sneakers?

What strutted the down runway was a double tongued, double Swoosh, double laced Nike Lab sneaker. A double or nothing statement. Could it be a reference to the two houses working together to become one or is it a hybrid mix of Nike Dunk High and Blazer Mid with maybe a hint of Jordan 1 lacing and tongue.

Nothing is known yet with word on the street pricing this as $300 and available from January 2019.

The new Nike VaporMax in Wine Burgundy would go great with anything in this collection while we wait for the Juicy sneaker collab to hit.
