Prada Elevates Sportswear For Its Resort 2018 Collection
Absolutely no logo sweatshirts to be found.
For her first resort show, Miuccia Prada did what she does best: turned the rules around and delivered a collection with a twist. The irony of Prada’s first fashion show dedicated to a season spun around travel was that rather than showcasing the collection at a faraway locale (as is custom with resort), the fashion house returned back to its home— more specifically, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, where the first Prada store opened in 1913.
Prada shared that presenting a “modernist” collection was her primary goal, and the runway was a frenzy of transparent dresses, feathers, sequins and crystal detailing. The show also aimed for “the perfect combination,” juxtaposing feminine touches with sportswear elements, waterproof jackets, knee-high socks and even sneakers.
“I wanted to work on contemporary and sports but [aiming for] a metamorphosis into elegance,” said Prada. Her goal, she explained, was to achieve elegance through sports and the other way around.
The resort collection certainly played to fashion’s current love of athleticism, but of course, Prada would never just slap a logo on a sweatshirt and call it streetwear. Instead, the house played with embellishments, graphics and textures but held the looks together with an eccentric ode to hi-tech sportswear. See every look from the collection below.
