Peep Nike's All-New Retro-Inspired Air Max 270 & The Release Date
Stand by for Air Max Day.
Nike has just unveiled its Air Max 270, a brand-new sneaker with the style DNA of some of the most iconic '90s silhouettes, reborn into something entirely new.
The illegitimate lovechild of the Air Max 180 and the Air Max 93, the Air Max 270 would have sneakerheads wondering who's the real daddy – if it weren't for Senior Creative Director at Nike, Dylaan Raasch's clarification:
“Originally, the idea was to mash up the Air Max 93 and the Air Max 180 and build a new, more refined silhouette incorporating elements of both. Somewhere along the way, we got to a point where we essentially abandoned that idea and decided to make something entirely new. That’s when we flipped to what has now become the Nike Air Max 270 with this new, sleek, engineered upper. It’s not a hybrid at all, it’s a new Air Max.”
The new sneaker is, of course, built around the revolutionary Air Max technology, but boasts the highest heel to date (32mm) – perhaps in keeping with the recent trend toward chunky sneakers. The form-fitting silhouette boasts a zoned mesh upper for optimum breathability and a “trampoline-like effect” when worn. All about comfort, the sneaker provides a smooth transition from heel to forefoot. The bonus: there'll be a rainbow of colors to choose from.
The shoe will officially release on February 1, followed by more colorways on Air Max Day, March 26, including “Teal” – a tribute to Tinker Hatfield's classic Air Max 93 colorway.
