No Joke: Balenciaga's Latest Bags Are Inspired By A German Supermarket
Supermarket swag.
You've probably already seen Balenciaga's polarizing Spring/Summer 2018 campaign, channeling '80s and '90s studio photographs. Well the latest extreme normcore vibe carries on where the famous luxury IKEA FRATKA remake left off with new tote bags inspired by German supermarket Edeka's plastic shopping bags.
The Balenciaga version, although looking ridiculously similar to the Edeka bag, is actually made from lambskin leather while also including an interior zip, patch pockets and “The Power of Dreams” printed on one side – a recurring slogan throughout the collection. Oh, and there's a much heftier price tag, obviously. The Balenciaga bag retails online for $,1050 – a whole $1,049 more than the original supermarket version.
Instagram reactions included the hilarious “Crackhead SS18” and “whoever thought of this should be fired” but you can't argue with its cohesion to the whole campaign. We can't wait to see a Boolenciaga parody of this one.
Would you cop?
