VETEMEMES And Boolenciaga Up The Parody Game With Priceless Ikea Shoot
Oven-baked streetwear anyone?
We all love a good trip to IKEA. I mean, we don't know about you, but we usually just go there to do stupid shit and eat cheap hotdogs (someone please tell us what that crispy topping is though). We're 99% sure that Balenciaga's Demna Gvasalia must have popped in to the Swedish chain for a multipack of tea lights and a carafe one Saturday and, after bagging up his purchases into a handy 99-cent FRATKA and waiting in line for a refreshing soda, the moment of inspiration struck: “this bag is truly iconic.” Well, it's not surprising that after Balenciaga released its high-end, $2,150 take on the bag, a whole horde of fashion people took to IKEA to get their hands on the polypropylene carry-all and fashion their own crazy fashion pieces, bringing a whole new meaning to “cheap and chic” – IKEA gas mask anyone?
Now our favorite fashion parody brands, VETEMEMES and Boolenciaga have taken fashion's recent IKEA obsession full circle with perhaps our favorite take on the craze: a priceless lookbook shot in the IKEA store itself.
The lookbook features their trademark oversized hoodies and sweatshirts, Boolenciaga caps and, of course, their own DIY take on that FRATKA. We're assuming that the hammer, straw hats and IKEA tape measure were the models' own.
