3 Ways to Dress Your Best After Turning 30

Feel confident, content and optimistic.

POSTED BY GUEST WRITER

Many times, people panic when turning 30, suffering a mild-to-moderate identity crisis. Men and women reflect and wonder about whether they've accomplished enough in life to this point and everything else they hope to check off their to-do lists, wondering how they'll do it.

Women start to evaluate matters regarding appearance, such as the newly discovered fine lines and wrinkles, the length and style of their hair and their wardrobe. The wardrobe is a big source of concern for many women making this pivotal leap from their 20s to their 30s. While it's technically a one-year flip of the calendar, turning 30 does mean something to people. You've likely finished college and grad school, started a job or two, married and started a family, stayed single and free to travel, or any number or none of those things. Your clothing often represents your state of mind and where you are in life.

Do you think your clothes adequately let everyone, including yourself, know you're maturing in life and feel confident, content and optimistic? If you need some ideas about how to dress your best after turning 30, check out these three ideas.

1. Schedule a Closet Purge

You might find that 30 is a good age to assess the clothing you should keep and what you should offer to friends, donate, or sell. You don't have to take on your closet purge as soon as you turn 30, but you might start taking stock of items on a daily basis. As you pull out something you love and wear frequently, peek over to the back corner where dust gathers on the hangers. Do you ever plan to wear that dress you wore to your cousin's wedding again?

Chances are that wedding was years ago, and you've moved past the style and time in your life. Pull the dress off the hanger and put it into the appropriate tote for the intended recipient. This way, you won't feel overwhelmed or pressured to let go of things as you might in a single all-day purge session. However, if you feel like it's better to pull off the Band-Aid quickly, go for it and get it out of the way.

2. Buy Tailored Clothing

In your 20s, you might have thrown on a looser-fitting pair of jeans or an off-the-rack work blazer and called it good. Now that you're in your 30s, you might want to step up your fashion game and invest in tailored clothing. If you're vying for a promotion at work or have taken on a leadership role, you want to dress to impress, instill confidence and serve as a role model to others. You can even take in that blazer to have it fit better and it will look like a new item. But more importantly, as you buy clothing, invest in pieces that fit you, such as a pencil skirt or a business suit. Seek to build more structure into your wardrobe.

3. Dress for the Love Life You Want with the Right Intimates
