An LA-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and artist OSKAR O. shares her new EP ‘Religious Psychosis’, out everywhere on 20 July.

‘Religious Psychosis’ represents a new chapter, both personally and musically, where OSKAR is ready to let go of all the toxic habits of her past and reach a new dimension, or as OSKAR would say “find a new God”.

A hugely personal, game-changing body of work: “It represents finding the ability to see through the mirage of dysfunctional living, because those things are not my God anymore.” The EP touches on vices like toxic relationships, drugs, alcohol, social status, and ego.

Fully written by OSKAR and produced in collaboration with Ash Always (Frances Forever), this EP draws inspiration from Hip Hop, R&B, Lofi, and Folk sub-genres. She drew from the Country/Hip Hop fusion of Post Malone, the “sad boy” energy of Lil Peep, as well as the strong femme presence of Kehlani. OSKAR is ready to share her vision to the world, and her fiercely loyal small but growing fanbase is ready to go with her.

The EP’s intro, the unreleased ‘Jigsaw’ is a theatrical hip-hop track inspired by “HelloZepp,” the overture of the Saw movie franchise written by Charlie Clouser. The song compares depression and addiction to the “traps” in the saw movies and the pain that came with saving her own life. ‘Damn’ is an upbeat 808/trap song that describes her experience as a woman in the music industry - “The song was inspired by realizing that I had been brainwashed into thinking I needed to rely on men to succeed, but in reality had just allowed a bunch of leeches to latch onto me.”

New Phrase’ is about the feeling of beginning a new relationship and wanting to let go of her old toxic habits, while ‘Princessp’ is a ballad about coming to terms with her addictive personality and how it affects her relationships.

‘Terms and Conditions’ is a stream-of-conscious narration about deciding whether life is worth living - “I go through all of the hopeless feelings of contemplating suicide, but eventually come back around to the fact that I can’t put conditions on my life- I have to surrender to God.” Closing the EP is the title track ‘Religious Psychosis’ - an anthem about leaving a toxic relationship and finding faith.

OSKAR O. grew up outside of Boston, MA, and has been fascinated with making music since the age of 7. After earning a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, she got the opportunity to veer from her piano studies and focus on songwriting. Rather than relying on others to realize her vision, as well as feeling a lack of female representation, she immersed herself in production and learned how to program beats and make records herself.

Overall, the EP encapsulates the notion of moving from darkness into light, connection with a higher power, and overcoming addiction and depression. “I want to convey that behind the most painful experiences are opportunities for profound growth. I also hope that the shameful things I admit in my lyrics inspire people to be more honest with themselves.”

‘Religious Psychosis’ is out on all streaming platforms on 20 July
