Nike Pledges Commitment To Female Sneakerheads With 'Unlaced' Concept
The force is definitely female.
Big brands are starting to take notice of female sneakerheads – and it's about damn time. The burgeoning women's streetwear industry can no longer be ignored, as much in terms of business as social kudos in today's increasingly representative climate.
With its new 'Unlaced' concept, Nike has come out to pledge its commitment to this cause, emphasizing its decades-long support of women in sport – from rebel runner Joan Benoit Samuelson to record-setting tennis great Serena Williams – and outlining its commitment going forward to women's-exclusive sizing, retail experiences and services. Releasing the hyped Off-White x Air Jordan 1 in women's sizes is just the beginning, with expanded sizing for the iconic Air Force 1 and Air Max lines in the works for fall.
Letting women's voices be heard in a such a male-dominated community is also a main priority. Nike has already began to challenge the status quo through creative endeavors with A.L.C.'s Andrea Lieberman and the International Girls Crew, as well as The 1 Reimagined project which saw a 14-strong female design collective rework the Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1.
Stand by, ladies, you're about to witness an industry revolution.
