“When I was 20, I stopped talking for like three months. I didn't know what was wrong.” Singer-songwriter and rapper, Lizzo, talks about her period of self-imposed silence in an inspiring new video for Great Big Story.

During her silence, she told herself she'd become a professional singer; now, years later, Lizzo is signed to a major label and using her music to make the world a better place. “I want to see tons of plus size pop stars,” she said. “I want to see black girl magic. I just want to see us way more.”

Check out the video above to hear more of Lizzo's incredible story and her empowering mission for black, plus-size representation in the music industry.
