Introducing the Pearl-Adorned Tasaki x ASICS

A run-down of the extravagant sneaker collaboration by the Japanese brands.

POSTED BY MEGAN PISTON

It’s not everyday that a pair of runners embellished with top-shelf pearls is released, but it’s no surprise that it was Tasaki who did it. Dropping later this month, Japanese jeweler Tasaki has teamed up with ASICS to create high-end sneakers using the ASICS GT-2160 as their canvas.

Sold for a limited time only—April 26th to May 12th-–the Tasaki ASICS will be available exclusively at Tasaki’s “Floating Shell” exhibition in Omotesando, Tokyo, as a segment of their 70th anniversary celebration.

Maintaining the classic silhouette of the GT-2160, the sneakers feature a mesh base, accented by leather overlays. With a creamy and tan colorway, the Tasaki ASICS is highlighted by iridescent overtones. The ASICS logo is emblazoned on the tongue and lateral heel of the sneaker, with an indication of the collaboration featured on the insole.

Utilizing high-end Akoya pearls and 18K-plates silver, there are five distinctive variations of the sneaker, featuring one pair that is embellished with 1,000 pearls. Other versions of the shoe incorporate smaller numbers of the lavish gemstone, such as only adding a few to the vamp of the tongue.

Aligning with the unique style, the sneakers will be priced from $1,100 to $29,000 USD depending on the variation. This drop continues the recent surge we’ve seen in retro sneaker revivals, and it certainly won’t be the last.
