Henry Holland's 'Grow Up' FW18 Show Spoke To Our Generation
Adulting never looked so fun.
Henry Holland's Fall/Winter 2018 collection was all about presenting a fully fledged it-girl wardrobe, rather than a specific theme. “We're trying to be less, ‘She's a pirate, she's a witch, she's this or she's that’ and look at the wardrobe we are building for her,” said Holland.
The offerings – which included plaid prints, florals, camo, tailoring, '90s hip-hop-style puffers and hiking boots – although eclectic, tied together in effortless cohesion. The look was very streetwear and the color palette, young and vibrant. Fitting with the title, 'Grow Up', the design was undoubtedly more sophisticated, but a deeper meaning revealed itself upon inspection of the show notes.
Henry Holland had poet Max Wallis write a manifesto, also named 'Grow Up', which couldn't more accurately describe the chaotic joy – and awkwardness – of growing up. The first part says it all: “Wake up, stand up, get out, get laid, delete the number, regret it after, be horny, be shy, try hard, get fucked, make mistakes, shag mates, sleep a little, chat a lot, lie a bit, kiss true, have fights, say sorry, love long, mean it, say it, remember: breathe.”
