Fendi’s Fall 2024 Show Is Our Roman Empire

Kim Jones' Italian universe echoes timeless elegance.

POSTED BY ANDREI LUCAS

Fendi sets the tone for Milan Fashion Week by paying homage to its Roman-Italian roots with a dash of British flair.

Designer Kim Jones draws inspiration from the vibrant scenes of the Blitz Kids and New Romantics, infusing classical Italian aesthetics with a touch of British culture.

In his latest collection, Jones showcases his unparalleled creativity as the artistic director of Fendi's couture and womenswear, presenting a fusion of influences that captivate the audience.

Jones reveals that the collection draws from archival sketches dating back to 1984, evoking memories of London's dynamic atmosphere during that era. This eclectic mix reflects a time when British subcultures gained global prominence while maintaining a distinct sense of British sophistication and nonchalance, resonating harmoniously with Roman style.

Structured tailoring dominates the collection, sculpting elegant figures adorned in a palette of black and white. Furthermore, a refined color palette of luxurious neutrals accentuated by vibrant hues of mauve, lime, and electric blue lends a modern edge to the classic silhouettes.

Roman motifs intricately woven into knits and delicately embroidered onto silk garments infuse the collection with timeless elegance.

Leather emerges as a prominent feature, gracing accessories, shoes, and statement jackets in rich cherry hues reminiscent of recent trends seen on the Gucci menswear runway.

Unbuttoned shirts reveal glimpses of poppers, exuding a sense of casual sophistication, while leather riding boots command attention as models stride down the runway. Silvia Venturini Fendi's playful touch is evident in leather lollipop bags, adding a whimsical charm to the ensemble.

While Fendi remains among the few luxury brands continuing to feature fur in their collections, this season sees a return to fur alongside leather and shearling.

This choice prompts a brief interruption from a Peta protester, highlighting the ongoing debate surrounding ethical fashion practices.

Kim Jones's masterful curation of classical motifs alongside contemporary elements showcases Fendi's ability to evolve while staying true to its roots.

With a collection that seamlessly blends luxury and innovation, Fendi reaffirms its position as a trailblazer in the world of high fashion, restates that quiet luxury is here to stay, and  leaves an indelible mark on the runway and in the hearts of fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
