Cami Bear Drops "matchacoldbrew": A Glamorous Dive Into Emotional Chaos

Exclusive interview.

Miami-based singer, songwriter, and visual artist Cami Bear returns with her striking new single matchacoldbrew, now available on all platforms. Blending R&B, alt-pop, glitchy 2000s nostalgia, and unapologetic self-reflection, the track introduces a new era for the rising artist — one where glam meets chaos, and sad girl energy turns fiercely self-aware. We had the pleasure to sit down, and delve into the creative process.

Cami, “matchacoldbrew” feels like a strut through emotional chaos — seductive, messy, proud. When did you know this track had to exist?

I knew this song had to exist the moment it became a portal to writing from an honest place and owning darker times instead of hiding them. I came in trying to write a sad love song, but everything felt so forced. I stopped trying to heal the mess and just made it sound hot, I guess? That’s when “matchacoldbrew” came through.

The lyrics turn vulnerability into power. Was there a moment in your own life that inspired that shift — from shame to shine?

Definitely. I’ve gone through some real transformation in the last few years — emotionally, creatively, spiritually. I used to carry so much shame around parts of me that felt too much. But getting to know myself more deeply has inspired so many beautiful things in my artistry. This sort of freedom is a true gift.

You’ve said the worst parts of you make the best hooks. Which “worst part” of yourself do you think writes the best lyrics?

There’s a lot going on up there, haha — I’m 26 and not exactly a stranger to a good spiral. But give that girl a pen and she’s running. The overthinker in me and the broken pieces are in charge of translating into main character moments.

The video feels like a hangover shot through a Prada lens. What was the biggest creative risk you took in making it?

There were a few, but for starters, letting every version of me take up space on screen. I wasn’t hiding behind one “aesthetic” or one polished identity. I was all over the place and I had no idea how this would land, but what can I say — I’m all four of those looks, so. Also, visually, we leaned into discomfort (ugly angles, smeared makeup, etc). I wanted to make a video that felt beautiful + brutal. I would say that contrast was another risk — but also definitely the reward.

Working with Atlas Lens Co. is major. What was it like stepping into that cinematic space and seeing your vision on screen?

Working with Atlas Lens Co. was like watching my inner world get the cinematic treatment. It was truly the first time I ever felt seen on camera. We came in with some pretty crazy ideas, and they never flinched. I will cherish that forever. So grateful. Love you, Atlas team + Max + everyone involved <3.

“matchacoldbrew” is more than a song — it’s a vibe, a character, a mood. If she had a tagline, what would it be?

Easy. “Down bad, but she’s still iconic.”

From Gorgon City to BBC Radio 1 to your indie roots — how do you stay grounded while your sound keeps evolving?

By never pretending I have it all figured out. Evolution and discovery, especially in art, are BLESSINGS. That perspective is what keeps me grounded. And a joint lol.

Your aesthetic walks the line between polish and digital-era chaos. How do you balance sonic perfection with keeping it raw?

THANK YOU. As someone who is obsessed with creating this sort of tension, that means a lot. It’s all about intention. There’s structure, but the chaos is built in. I always say, you can put me on whatever song, in whatever genre, and you’ll always know it’s me because I lead with soul. That’s my fingerprint. It’s polished, but never perfect, which essentially is the whole point.

Your fans love the honesty in your lyrics. What’s something about your process they don’t know yet — but should?

Well, first off, I don’t think they know how obsessed I am with it. Second, I’m an emotional time traveler. I’m always writing from different places in my life — not always about right now. I’m also definitely not lighting candles and shit or following through any rituals. I just have a lot to say, so I do.

Last one: If “matchacoldbrew” had to live on one playlist forever — what would the title of that playlist be?

“not my finest hour”

With over 4 million streams and previous global acclaim through collaborations with Gorgon City and Westend, Cami Bear isn’t just dropping bangers — she’s building a world. “matchacoldbrew” is the first in a series of genre-blurring releases this year, setting the tone for what she calls “a new pop icon moment.” Equal parts messy and magnetic, this track invites you to embrace your lows, glam up your chaos, and move through life like every walk of shame deserves its own soundtrack.

Put your shades on. “matchacoldbrew” is out now.
