Calvin Klein's FW18 Show Proved Popcorn Is The Greatest Accessory

The clothes were pretty tasty too.

POSTED BY DEE CUNNING

Raf Simons' third runway show for Calvin Klein was arguably his most fully realized. The stage was set to perfection with an industrial scaffolding backdrop, Andy Warhol photographs and a snow of popcorn all over the floor – nailed it. The collection had a traditional wintry feel with most of the models dressed in balaclavas, heritage outerwear and sweaters that nana could have knitted.

If the overflow of popcorn, including the bags clutched by some of the models, didn't already hint at a deeper subtext, the knitted life-jacket vest or the dresses made from refashioned survival blankets might just give the dystopian game away.

After the show, Simons cited the 1995 film Safe as an influence, in which Julianne Moore's California housewife suffers unnamed environmental illnesses. However, the designer called it, “Less horror this time, more hope.” That explains the popcorn movie connection, at least.
