BDSM For Beginners – Our Bondage Box Lowdown

A big box of bondage goodies – tried and tested.

POSTED BY GRACE DICKSON

The first thing there is to say about bondage is that it gets a weird press. That mysterious super-spy from that cliché crime drama was into it, those terrifying and slightly angry looking people in that Berlin sex-club movie scene love it and otherwise, it’s pretty much left to those middle aged couples who post too many pictures of their dog to facebook. It really is a tricky age for bondage.

And for many of us, even if we decide that the angry looking people in that Berlin sex-club do look like they’re having fun, the events following on from that normally go one of three ways:

  1. You decide to check out the bondage section of your local sex shop but eventually find yourself staring at a 3 foot long fist-on-a-stick and decide that, actually, this probably isn’t for you.
  2. You hit the magical world of online-sex shops and get completely overwhelmed and confused by the endless options that you sigh, shut your laptop, and turn back to old-faithful the vibrator.
  3. You somehow manage to get your hands on a killer kit of bondage toys only to unbox them with your partner and realise you have no idea how to get started and where the fuck that thing is actually supposed to go.

There’s simply no denying it, bondage really can feel like an inaccessible and impossible fantasy world guarded by dominatrixes and dominators who somehow know what they’re doing.

But the thing is, any good sex shop will have lovely little hampers that remove the stress of picking things out yourself and usually, help you save a bit of money. So, I got my hands on a bondage box to do exactly that, with a carefully selected set of products to take you from sexually curious to the absolute queen of dominatrixes.

So, what’s in the box?

My box included a Kink eyemask, Dressman 5m bondage rope, Shunga Massage candle, Bijoux Indiscrets pom pom feather tickler, Sex and Mischief Nipple clamps, Orion mini whip and, perhaps most importantly, a little booklet to remind you what is, and how to use it.

Why is this set so good?

As I mentioned, a booklet is pretty helpful (and makes you feel like the dominatrix that did her homework). And of course, the best thing about this booklet was obviously the boy scout-esque knot guide to show you all the different and technical ways you can restrain your partner. The other thing that’s great about this set is the way the products include all the things you need to go from gentle and sensual play (with the massage candle and tickler) to rough and insatiable fun (think whips and rope). It’s also suitable for all couples, whatever the sexual orientation or gender, giving each of you the opportunity to play sub/dom however you want to. What a win.

And once all the tools, a little bit of knowledge and a safe word is in place, the rest is down to your and your better half to work out what all the fuss in those Berlin sex clubs is really about.

The Big Bondage Box retails at around $90 and is available across Europe. You can find it here at Amorelie now.
