Prepare to be blown away.

POSTED BY DEE CUNNING

With the sun on vacation in this S.A.D. time of year, we can always count on our nails to brighten the mood – because how can you feel gloomy when your nails are neon smiley faces? And there's arguably no better time to add to your nail art repertoire than fall's dark evenings and rainy days. In case you're in need of a little inspiration, we've trawled through Instagram to bring you our top seven jaw-dropping nail artists of the moment. Woah.

Jessica Washick

New York-based Jessica Washick, who also works as a color designer for Nike, has got street-ready nail art down, a master at everything from subtle ombre manis to your favorite sneaker designs. This “power red” with a simple Nike swoosh is totally stunning.

Also New York-based, this editorial nail artist has painted the nails of some of the world's biggest stars, including Gigi Hadid, Solange Knowles and Debbie Harry, and her genius designs are a mainstay of both the runways and the magazines. These daisy dukes tips are incredibly original.

The Illustrated Nail

Nail artist and session manicurist Sophie Harris-Greenslade started out studying illustration and animation before moving into nail art, which she describes as “a style of illustration, just on a smaller canvas.” As well as running her hugely successful blog, Sophie creates looks for high fashion designers, works with the world's leading brands and drives nail trends. These Halloween-inspired flame nails are badass.

Madeline Poole

Fun fact: Madeline Poole's peachy hair color was literally inspired by a troll doll, which makes her an inspiration before we even get onto her nail art. Poole's precision handwork and expert eye landed her the role of global ambassador for Sally Hansen. We love this super-sophisticated leaf-print design.

Vanity Projects

Founded by independent curator, Rita de Alencar Pinto in 2009, Vanity Projects first began as an art pop-up, offering nail artists the chance to exhibit their talents in a new environment alongside contemporary visual artists. The Vanity Projects nail artists have been all over magazine spreads and high fashion runways, as well as creating high-end nail designs in the brick-and-mortar salon. These holographic rave nails are bound to brighten up even the gloomiest of fall days.

Ash Crowe

Chicago nail artist and founder of Tipsy Magazine Ash Crowe is all about super-fun and original designs, with each nail of a color-coordinated set often sporting its own unique design. She's painted the nails of everyone from pop icons to fashion models. These graphic navy and gold nails are to die for.

Jin Soon Choi

The editorial manicurist and founder of JINsoon spas and nail lacquer just got her nails on that legendary new Vogue cover, featuring Adwoa Aboah and shot by Edward Enninful. Her flawless designs are adored by the fashion industry, ranging from sophisticated pastel nails to ingenious retro patterns. These bright confetti nails are just what the doctor ordered.
