5 Apps To Help You Stay Calm During Turbulent Times

We could all use some extra support right now.

POSTED BY LYDIA MAKIN

By now, most of us are several weeks into self-isolation and, as we get used to the idea of staying home for potentially months on end, it’s important to remember to take care of our mental health. The uncertainty we have around the future is likely to cause some feelings of anxiety and fear which, although valid, don’t have to be a constant source of negativity in our lives.

Luckily, there are plenty of apps that can help us manage our thoughts and keep our mental health in check. We’ve put together a list of the best.

#1 Smiling Mind

Smiling Mind is a non-profit organization whose app offers a variety of daily meditation and mindfulness exercises designed to bring balance to your life. Whether you’re an experienced meditator or just beginning your mindfulness journey, Smiling Mind has plenty of programs to choose from that will help you work on your emotional wellbeing.

Right now, the app is offering a program called Thrive Inside, which is designed specifically to help you stay calm and healthy while self-isolating.

All content on the Smiling Mind app is free. Get it here.

#2 Fabulous

During such a chaotic time, sticking to a routine can help you stay calm and bring some structure to your life, especially if you’re working from home. If you’re interested in building healthy habits and routines, then Fabulous is the app for you. The app sets the initial task of drinking a glass of water when you wake up every day, and gradually adds more habits over time to create a routine. It allows you to track your habits each day and even sends helpful reminders to help you reach your goals.

The Fabulous Instagram account is also updated regularly and has heaps of inspiring content to scroll through when you’re in need of some motivation.

Fabulous offers users a one-week free trial, after which it costs $14.99 per month. Get it here.

#3 Calm

Featuring guided meditations, sleep stories, and other mindfulness sessions, Calm has something for everyone and is a great app for meditation newbies. Guided meditations can last between 3-25 minutes, depending on your preferences, so it’s great for dipping your toes in if you’ve never meditated before.

A basic account with Calm is free, or you can pay $69.99 per year for premium content after a one-week free trial. Get it here.

#4 Colorfy

Perfect for practicing mindfulness on-the-go, Colorfy is the digital coloring book you never knew you needed. Coloring therapy relaxes the brain and forces you to focus on the present moment and forget about your worries.
