“Icons Of Tomorrow” Front Adidas' New Superstar Sneakers Campaign

An icon of the past meets the icons of the future.

POSTED BY DEE CUNNING

There aren't many sneaks with quite as rich a history as the adidas '80 Superstar. The Superstar was originally launched in 1970, the first all-leather basketball sneaker, until it was adopted as the shoe of choice by New York City's '80s hip-hop heroes. You know you've made it big as a sneak when RUN-DMC writes you a love song. Now the legendary Superstar is about to receive quite the facelift for fall/winter 2017.

The new campaign stars adidas' “icons of tomorrow” – a crew of familiar influencer faces “using their creativity to motivate a better tomorrow.” The icons include model activist Barbie Ferreira, artist and photographer Arvida Byström, musician and activist Kiran Gandhi, skateboarder Rachelle Vinburg, climate change activist Xiuhtezcatl Martinez and musician Khalif Diouf.

In addition to the original, new iterations include an urban gray colorway with subtle tonal contrasts, a version reproduced in nubuck with oiled-suede triple stripes, and some versions featuring gold-branded details and a metallic sock liner.
