On March 18th, 2024, American clothing brand Gap announced their upcoming collaboration with the skateboarding and apparel brand Palace. Inspired by ‘90s skateboarding culture, PALACE GAP features 55 pieces that blend preppiness with modern streetstyle for kids and adults alike.

This development marks Palace’s first entry into the childrenswear industry, an exciting and rather surprising take for the London-based brand. The best part? The collection dropped just four days after its announcement—a win for anyone who doesn’t like to be kept waiting.

For many, it was unanticipated (and even shocking) news when the companies revealed their plans to work together. However, the pieces can be put together given the shared culture and history of the two. In a statement by Gap, it was said that the collection is founded on “self-expression, individuality, and community through pieces inspired by ‘90s style, skate culture, and a love for San Francisco.”

It's a reinvention of the staple apparel brand aided by Palace’s distinctive touch. Lev Tanju, the founder of Palace, went in depth on the inspiration behind the collaboration, sharing that Gap was what he and his contemporaries skated in throughout their childhood

Gap is renowned for their stake in the kids’ apparel industry. For a newcomer entering the market, what better choice is there than to partner with the most iconic childrenswear brand of them all? The collaboration embodies the “cool kid” that we all wished to be growing up, and it will certainly be a great step forward for Palace’s expansion into new realms.

Featuring varsity jackets, windbreakers, track suits, cargo pants, and oxford and rugby shirts, PALACE GAP is redefining childrenswear with an emphasis on modernity. The collection strays far enough from the traditional take on kids’ apparel for the pieces to be sought after by adults, too, which is an atypical and innovative concept within the fashion industry.

Looking into the collaboration, we're seeing a color palette of bright primaries, army green, navy blue, dark red, and neutrals that appeal to both markets. The pieces feature remixes of both brands’ logos that embody the joint effort behind them.

Including sticker packs, a backpack, a limited edition skateboard, and even a duck plush, PALACE GAP has seamlessly blended what makes each brand so unique in the first place—it’s a collection that’s certain to make waves in the industry for apparel lovers of all ages.
